A Hamilton industrial design company is distancing itself from its work on Icepak coolstores following the fatal explosion and fire at Tamahere.
Design Management Consultants Ltd, owned by engineer Lyall Green, is a Hamilton-based consulting design practice whose services, according to its website, include providing “clients with the safe and cost-effective fire strategies and materials incorporated into the design process.”
But in the wake of the devastating week-long fire at Icepak Tamahere and criticism of a lack of fire fighting preparedness on its premises, the design company has removed references on its website to its work for Icepak.
A view or cached page of Design Management Consultants website on June 16 shows that the company included Icepak Coolstores Ltd Wanganui and Tamahere in its list of “accomplished projects” under a category heading of ‘food processing/storage”. It included a link to two photographs of Icepak coolstores in Wanganui.
The references have since been removed from the company’s website page.
Green is a member of the Institute of Professional Engineers (IPENZ), which is reviewing coolstore design in the wake of the lethal April 5 explosion and fire.
The review will focus particularly on refrigeration fluids, insulation techniques, sprinkler technology, and appropriate coolstore structures.
